3 ways to manage the influence of a negative environment

We only get a chance to manage the Influence of a negative environment if we can first become aware that we are living in one. Secondly, we must also be able to identify the need for a change so as to give our minds the chance to fight. Finally, we must make a decision to either accept the impact it’s having on us or fight to manage it.

Aside from these three things happening, we would continue to wallow in whatever place we find ourselves regardless of whether it affects us positively or negatively.

There are different ways by which we can manage the influence of a negative environment. But each option is dependent on us and what works better for us at a given time.

The environment we find ourselves in can bring us either harm or good depending on the people who form it. It’s left for us to identify the type of environment we are in as we go through the day because it can reshape our pattern of thinking which when it happens changes our behavior and attitude towards life in general.

Awareness and our ability to identify the kind of environment we are in can help us decide how we can live within it so as to prepare our mindset to enable us to prevent any negative attack on our mindset.

This environment could be a work, home or school environment. Some people are just bad energies, they suck away your time, energy and will try to influence you sometimes intentionally with their issues and beliefs which they know you are not interested in.

They keep pushing you to bend towards their direction so that they can feel comfortable being around you and also so that they can have little or full control over you.

We can manage the influence of a negative environment in different ways. Here we will be looking at three approaches we can likely take.

How do you manage negativity?

Option 1: Being in charge of our mindset

Understanding our environment helps us understand how best we can adjust to adapt without compromising our goals, dreams, and visions and this is when our emotional intelligence comes into play.

Being in charge of our mindset can be a very difficult task to do when we are in the midst of a large number of negative people, in a corrupt environment or in an environment where the peoples’ mode of thinking is far from what our core value beliefs stand for.

Being in charge of our mindset would involve us limiting association and communication with whatever and whoever we feel and think is likely a bad influence. In this case, we have to be smart in order to remain focused on the goal at hand.

It is important to note that staying in such an environment should be for a temporary period, this should be the plan as it will provide us time to move to the third option.

It’s always good to use the shielding approach first if we are unable to move away from that environment.

Staying positive with a mindset that someday you will be out from there should be part of your everyday thoughts and so you should work towards making it a reality.

In this option of managing our mindset, the idea is to stay positive while in a negative environment and also working out how to get out to avoid getting contaminated.

Option 2: Influencing the Environment for good

Of course, there are people with the will power to change anybody they come in contact with. They are able to do this because they have a concentrated and deeply focused mindset.

Influencing a negative environment is an important method used in managing the influence it has on us. In this case, we can change the mindset of the people who wish to change us. Using this option involves going into a war of the mind.

It becomes a mind game and exercise, our mind against theirs. The stronger mind will end up winning and in most cases, if both minds are extremely strong, they may reach a consensus where they decide to respect each other’s opinion and let go.

This option involves a direct approach and confrontation, with time and energy to exchange words and through up ideas and reasons to convince the other party to see enough reasons so as to come to agree and give up on their own beliefs.

It’s important that we understand the depth of our will power before we decide to use this option. If our will power isn’t as rooted as it should be, we could end up losing the war of minds and coming out a different person altogether. In this case, using option 3 should be our last hope.

Option 3: Moving away from the environment

Moving away from an unfavorable environment is an important step to building up ones-self.

Of course, there is an option of trying to change those in the environment which in most cases might prove to be very difficult to do.

Trying to change the people in a negative environment might seem difficult especially if we still trying hard to build up our inner self.

Of course, option 2 makes it clear to us that we can still guide those that are willing if they want to be guided…even though it is risky and might backfire.

If we are using option 3, then we should prioritize ourselves first – minds. We can take inspiration from this known saying “heal yourself first. The rest will come later.”

Coming back to that same environment to effect change might be part of our after-plans if we really wish to go back to option 2.

Until then, it would be better we focus all our energy on getting stronger than we already are internal, which we can easily achieve by changing the environment to a likeminded environment where we can find people who can help us grow in bounds with regards to our core values, emotional and mental mind.

As the saying goes “Spend time with people who are good for your mental health.”

All actions virtually begin in the mind. We all should begin to put our minds to work. We only need to have a rethink about our methods and approach. If a method isn’t working out, then we need to have a change of mindset while we lookout for a new method.

If our dreams and goals are things that we desire and long to achieve in the long run, then we need to begin our mindset reconfiguration now with regards to how we manage the environment we find ourselves in.

It might be difficult at first, but continuous practice can help build up our inner strength as practice optimizes personality. Our mindset is our way out. When we change it, we change our lives as we are a force on our own.
